Production
Music videos
The reason any of this started, and still the work that gets taken on for less than it should be.
How these are made
Music video budgets rarely survive contact with a normal production quote, so they are approached differently: a small crew, a tight shooting plan, and an idea that is built to be finished in post rather than bought on the day. Animation and compositing do the work that a bigger budget would have done with a build, a location or a unit.
That is not a compromise talking. Some of the best-received work here was half-animated by delivery, and was always meant to be.
What a video includes
- Concept and treatment, written against the track rather than a mood board
- Shoot: crew, kit, locations and a plan that fits the day
- Edit cut to the track, not to a storyboard
- Animation, compositing and effects as the idea needs them
- Grade, delivery masters, and the vertical and square versions the label will ask for
Post only
If the video is shot and needs cutting, comping or animating, that is day-rate work rather than a production quote. Artists and labels who have shot something themselves and stalled in post are welcome to send it.
What it costs
Quoted per project, because the cost of a film lives in the shoot rather than in a rate card. The drivers are broken down on the pricing page, and the FAQ answers what a corporate video actually costs in South Africa.
