Steve Umculo — Your Eyes Through Mine
Steve Umculo is a South African indie folk musician. I edited Your Eyes Through Mine. The lead character is haunted by a lost love: present-day memories of someone from his past.

Challenge & solution
It could have gone gothic. Dreamlike overlays, composites, a horror grammar on top of the pictures. The director and Steve wanted it kept clean. No overlay work. So I spent the edit on eyelines, on leading the viewer, on cutting on the beats, and on deciding what you’re allowed to see when.
It’s a straightforward film, and it’s a high-quality one. I still love the song, and I still rate Steve as a musician. Sometimes the edit is about not adding anything.
The discipline
This one came through music videos. Concept to delivery for labels and independent artists.
