Commercial production
Tools of Torture
The Legal Resources Centre in Johannesburg needed an awareness film about tools of torture. You can't film the subject, so the film had to be illustrated. I produced it. Alexis Schofield in Cape Town made the artwork and the animation.

Challenge & solution
You can’t point a camera at this subject, so illustration was the only honest solution. I brought in Alexis Schofield, an artist and animator in Cape Town. We started from the script. She found the art style and did every drawing and every animated beat. I produced the job, recorded and laid the voiceover, added music and sound, and finished it so it held together as a film rather than a sequence of drawings.
It’s a heavy brief. The tone had to be exact: not sensational, not soft. Alexis’s work carries that. I polished what she made and got it out the door.
The discipline
This one came through commercial production. Brand and retail commercials for agencies and in-house teams.
