SABC TV Licence “De Doorns”
A television licence advertisement for the SABC, through 9mm Films. It follows a rugby player from De Doorns who fell in love with the game as a boy because he could watch it on SABC. Pure edit for me.

Challenge & solution
The whole argument of the ad sits in one move: the boy watching and the man playing have to read as the same person, and you have thirty seconds to make that land without a line of explanation doing it for you. Everything in the cut serves that — how long you hold the child, where the match lands against the memory, when the viewer is allowed to work it out for themselves.
This was a pure edit for me. It’s a good brief because the licence fee is an abstract thing to sell and this turns it into a specific person from a specific town. Easy to care about, which makes it easy to cut.
The discipline
This one came through commercial production. Brand and retail commercials for agencies and in-house teams.
