Challenge & solution
School films have to speak to two audiences at once: parents deciding where to send a child, and boys who already go there and will notice immediately if it rings false. That tension lives in the cut. Lean too hard on the prospectus and it stops being about anyone; lean too hard on the atmosphere and a parent comes away not knowing what the school actually offers.
I came to this one at the edit, which is often the position I’m in with 9mm Films. Eight minutes of someone else’s footage, and the job is to find the order that makes it a film — then let the titling carry the structure so a viewer always knows which part of the school they’re being shown.
The discipline
This one came through corporate video. Internal comms, case studies and leadership films, start to finish.
